Our approach

Keep as much natural tooth as possible.

Restorative dentistry repairs or replaces teeth damaged by decay, cracks, wear or infection. The goal is to keep as much natural tooth as possible while choosing a restoration that can handle the forces of your bite for years.

Repairing a damaged tooth

From a small filling to a crown.

  • Tooth colored fillings repair small to moderate cavities and chips. Composite fillings
  • Inlays and onlays rebuild part of a tooth when a filling is too large to last and a full crown would remove more healthy structure than necessary. Inlays and onlays
  • Crowns protect teeth that are cracked, heavily filled or treated with a root canal. Dental crowns
  • Root canal treatment removes infection or inflammation from inside a tooth so it can be kept rather than extracted. Root canal treatment

Replacing missing teeth

Implants, bridges and dentures.

  • Dental implants replace a single tooth, several teeth or a full arch without relying on neighboring teeth for support. Dental implants and full arch implants
  • Bridges provide a fixed replacement anchored to the teeth on either side of a gap. Dental bridges
  • Dentures, including implant supported options, restore several or all teeth in an arch. Dentures

Planning

How treatment is planned.

Every plan starts with an examination, only the imaging that is actually needed and a review of your bite and gum health. We walk you through what we see, which problems need treatment now, which can be monitored and how each option compares in longevity, maintenance and cost before any work begins.

When a specialist would serve you better, we coordinate the referral.

Restorative dentistry

Common questions.

Is it better to save a tooth or replace it with an implant?

A natural tooth with a good long term outlook is usually worth keeping. When a tooth is cracked too deeply or cannot be predictably restored, an implant or bridge may be the better investment. We explain the tradeoffs for your specific tooth.

How long do crowns and fillings last?

It varies with size, location, bite forces, grinding and home care. Regular exams help catch small problems before they require larger repairs.

Can treatment be done in stages?

Often, yes. We can prioritize urgent problems first and plan the rest around your schedule and budget. Palo Alto Oral Health is at 2875 Middlefield Road in Midtown Palo Alto and welcomes patients from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Los Altos and Stanford.
