Smile Makeover

A “smile makeover” is not one standardized dental procedure. It is a planning process that looks at the teeth, gums, bite, facial proportions and the specific changes a patient wants to make. For some people the right plan is very small. For others, treatment may involve several coordinated steps.

Start with the goal, not the procedure

Before choosing veneers, bonding or whitening, Dr. Sharma first looks at what is actually creating the concern. A dark tooth, uneven edge, crowding, gum asymmetry and missing tooth all require different solutions. The most conservative plan is usually the one that addresses the cause rather than simply covering it.

What can be part of a smile makeover?

  • Teeth whitening for appropriate types of discoloration.
  • Composite bonding for conservative changes in shape or small defects.
  • Porcelain veneers when a more significant change in color or form is appropriate.
  • Clear aligners when tooth position is the main issue.
  • Restorative treatment when damaged or missing teeth are part of the problem.
  • Periodontal treatment when gum health or gum position needs to be addressed first.

Why sequencing matters

Whitening is generally performed before final shade matching of bonding or ceramic restorations. Orthodontic treatment may reduce how much tooth structure needs to be altered. Active gum disease or decay should be managed before elective cosmetic treatment.

Digital planning and mockups

Depending on the case, photographs, digital scans, diagnostic models or a trial mockup can help evaluate proposed changes before definitive treatment. These tools are useful because attractive dentistry should fit the individual face and bite rather than follow a universal formula.

A conservative cosmetic consultation

You do not need to arrive knowing which procedure you want. Bring the things you like and dislike about your smile. Dr. Sharma can explain which changes are realistic, what can be left alone and where a less invasive option may produce the result you are looking for.
