How We Use Veneers to Cover a Decayed ToothIf you are paying attention to your teeth you will generally notice changes in the color. A tooth may get yellowish or it may not appear to be clean after brushing. Most people, at some point in the day, will move their tongue around their teeth. Most of the time your teeth feel smooth, particularly after you brush or floss.

But sometimes you may feel a rough edge or possibly even what seems to be a small hole. These are signs of decaying teeth. When your teeth decay, they go through stages before they are no longer salvageable at all.

Signs of a Problem Tooth

Decaying teeth present with other symptoms aside from discoloration. You may notice your breath smelling bad, or your tooth may ache. It could become sensitive to hot or cold. Decaying teeth, believe it or not, can also cause jaw pain or headaches, or both. If you come to see us with any of these symptoms, and you should, we will first determine the cause. Once the cause is identified, we will look at the best way to repair the damaged tooth. Don't worry, it does not always mean extraction, unless you wait too long to see us. Depending on the cause, we could use veneers to solve the problem.

Can Veneers Help?

We can use veneers on decayed teeth depending on the cause and extent of the decay. Once we find the cause and stop the decay process, we will remove all of the decayed parts of your tooth. At that point, we can evaluate your tooth to see if a veneer is a viable option. In order to place a veneer, we need a certain amount of tooth structure left.

If, after removing the decay, your tooth has enough surface area that is decay free, we can put the veneer in place. Make an appointment as soon as you feel any of the above symptoms. The sooner we catch the decay the better chance we have to use veneers to cover the tooth.
