Tips To Prevent Unpleasant Dry Socket

Posted on 11/7/2022 by Shiv Sharma, DDS
Tips To Prevent Unpleasant Dry SocketWhen you have a tooth extracted, a blood clot forms over the area where the tooth was taken. This helps to protect and repair the bone and sensory receptors in the area. This clot has to remain in its current location until your gums have fully recovered and your mouth has returned to its normal state.

The clot can break loose on occasion. If this occurs, you will suffer from the severe complication known as a dry socket. A dry socket causes discomfort and slows down the healing process. If you use a straw for drinking, the air movement and the muscles in your cheeks that create suction might shift your blood clot. After having an extraction, you should wait a whole week before using straws again. According to specific research, there may be a connection between the dry socket and the use of oral contraceptives. Other drugs can potentially inhibit the formation of a routine blood clot.

Smoking Can Increase The Chances Of Getting Dry Socket

The rapid intake of tobacco smoke may dislodge blood clots. Not only cigarettes but any smoking are discouraged. The compounds in other tobacco products might delay recovery and possibly cause infection.

Avoid smoking for a few weeks before surgery. Tobacco use may negatively impact your recovery after oral surgery, so an app may be helpful if you're trying to cut down or quit altogether. If you want to stop smoking, your dentist may be able to point you in the right direction or give you with tools to do so.
